PRASSIES

Prassies is a village in the municipal of Rethymno which has a
preservable traditional settlement.
Its situated 11 kilometers southeast of Rethymno in 360m altitude.
Today about 150people lives in the village of Prassies.
The important product of the area is olive oil and other groceries such
as grapes and fruits.
Prassies village is situated between the cliffs of two small green
hills and that is why it was named Prassies .
In Greek means green field.There is a abundance of flowers and various herbs.
In the bigging of the village you can find the Prassano Gorge which is
crossed by Platanes river.Vultures have their homes in inaccessible
caves.You can see them rising and using thermals in the air.
Near the village of Prassies is a huge cave, Cave Piatsida which used
to have lots off Crystals. Today most of them are destroyed.
In the center of the village is a church devoted to Virgin Mary .Its
called church of Virgin Mary Mirtidiotisa. The picture of Virgin Mary that is placed in the churched is consider to be miraculous caused to many people that was queered by it during the war.
Its also said that during the invasion of Turks in Crete it was moved to Russia.
In the village also exist an old church devoted to Jesus with Byzantine frescos and next to it a church devoted to Saint Haralambos.
The old church devoted to Saint John in Dafnes is imposing. In the central square of the village you can find the church devoted to Saint Anthony which it was build 50 years ago.
